The opossum is found only in North America, although there is a "toad country", also known as yapok, found in Central and South America. In addition, Possums originated in Australia, but not New Zealand, New Guinea, Indonesia and some small islands in the Pacific. It was found in New Zealand hundreds of years ago.
Physical characteristics Didephimorphs or opossums are small and medium sized marsupials that vary within close proximity of a small mouse to a large cat. Most opossums have long snouts, a narrow skull and a pronounced sagittal crest. They also have a large number of teeth with small incisors, large canines and triple molars. Many opossum goats inhabit trees, at least in part and omnivores. Didelphimorphs walk with their feet flat and their hind legs have one less digit than opposable claw.
