It was previously thought that mathematics was the science of the relationship between quantity and the spatial shape of the real world. So people put mathematics in the ranks of natural sciences. At first it was true. But we try to understand the subject of these sciences. Chemists study substances and their interactions, biologists study animals and plants, and astronomers study celestial bodies and the entire universe. Those are all natural phenomena. So people classified physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy ... are the natural sciences. Before there were astronomers, there were planets. Without biologists, animals and plants would still exist.
